History A Level Tutoring

If you want to understand the past and gain insight into our present, there’s no better way than studying A Level history.

This subject is an in-depth look at how civilisations have evolved over time, and it covers a range of topics from philosophy to political science, giving you the opportunity to really explore the history of the world.

Knowing how to handle the step up from GCSE can, however, be tricky for students. This is why many of them are now turning to online A Level history tutors to help them gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed in their studies.

What Does A Level History Include?

A Level history includes a variety of topics and disciplines, ranging from classical historical studies to in-depth analyses of political systems. It covers different eras of history, from the Ancient World to the modern day, in addition to exploring themes such as religion, literature and art.

There is also a focus on developing research skills, which students will then be able to use in order to source evidence and draw their own conclusions. As such, it requires a wide range of skills and knowledge to be successful.

To complete the full A Level, students need to complete three components:

  • Component 1: Breadth study (this may cover topics including the Crusades, the British Empire, Spain and the Age of Discovery, Russia in the Age of Absolution and Enlightenment, the Tudors, Industrial Britain, Tsarist and Communist Russia, and the Making of A Superpower: USA).
  • Component 2: Depth study (examples of topics may include Royal Authority and the Angevin Kings, War of the Roses, Reformation, Religious Conflict and the English Church, the English Revolution, the Birth of the USA, France in Revolution, America, Italy and Fascism, Nazi Germany, The Transformation of China, the Russian Revolution, The American Dream and the Cold War.
  • Component 3: Historical investigation (personal study)

Students must also study:

  • The history of more than one country
  • A British history option for component 1 or 2
  • A non-British history option for component 1 or 2
  • Topics from a chronological range of at least 200 years

What Is The Difference Between A Level History and GCSE Study?

If you studied history at GCSE, the first thing you will notice is that A Level is a big step up.

Students need to have a firm understanding of the topics they are studying, and to develop independent research skills. They will also need to be able to make informed arguments about their findings. This requires them to read widely, analyse sources, synthesise evidence, and draw meaningful conclusions. A Level history also involves writing longer essays and participating in debates and presentations on the topics covered, which is why many students look for extra support from an A level history tutor. If you are currently working towards your GCSE exams, our GCSE history tutors are available to support you through your revision.

I’ve been with this tuition company for about two years, and I can confidently say it has been an outstanding experience. The teachers are brilliant, providing excellent support in my doughter's learning journey. Booking and rearranging lessons are incredibly easy, adding to the overall convenience. My Learning Room is so much more than just a tutoring company! The one on one service is fantastic and the best experience I've encountered across the many tutoring companies we have tried (and not made much progress with). We were concerned about our son's progress at school and wanted to give him some extra help to ensure he can achieve his potential and open a few doors. We felt his school wasn't offering enough as he's a bright boy and capable of more. After failing to be convinced by a few other companies including a local tutor, we came across My Learning Room. We initially started with online GCSE Maths lessons after a very encouraging chat with Amer who was great to deal with. She listened and it was clear she really cared right from the start. The level of tutoring was impressive and we saw improvements within a short space of time. Knowledge on the curriculum was excellent and they focussed on key areas combined with tailored exam practise. We added online GCSE English and Science lessons and again the quality of online tutoring was clear to see, all tutors were very personable and helped build my son's confidence along with his knowledge of these subjects. A patient approach is what was required along with some key advice and techniques; My Learning Room delivered this exceptionally well. It wasn't long before his progress was noticed at school and he was placed in a higher set.My son achieved 8's & 9's across the board. We were simply overjoyed!I genuinely feel this wouldn't have been possible without Amer and the team. We were given advice on further studies, subjects to take and the grades required going forward. My son's confidence has grown so much over these last 2 years and we no longer worry as much as we used to. It was truly a blessing to come across these guys and the consistent positive feedback from the school, exam results and general progress in him as an individual has been such a bright note over these last couple of years.Thank you so much to everyone at My Learning Room. You will not be forgotten and we will keep in touch.

My son was predicted a 4 at GCSE Maths, we started the tutoring once a week in December and he received his results 2 weeks ago and got a 6!His tutor was a university student so quite close to him in age and very relatable.Would highly recommend My Learning Room, they are extremely flexible, professional but also personable and according to my son quite fun.Thank you so much, if we need any additional tutoring during his 6th form we will be back.
